Alexander Lloyd celebrated moving offices last week by taking their staff on a traditional trip to the seaside.
The company had been based out of their Richmond House offices for four years but recently due to expansion plans the directors of the business decided to make the move to a new, larger premises in Northgate House. The new space, which houses its 35 employees, has been modified to include a new ‘Break Out Room’, a place where staff can relax on the sofas and catch some television during breaks. This area contains items which were all suggested by the staff themselves- a wall mounted wide screen plasma TV was gratefully received, as was the table football (just in time for the World Cup!) Comments Karen Cole, Commercial Director at Alexander Lloyd, “Our staff work extremely hard and we wanted to make sure they felt rewarded- this new room and indeed our whole new office is geared around our employees enjoying the space around them. To celebrate the office move we took staff on a fantastic day out and everyone had a brilliant time. Ensuring our staff are repaid for the hard work they do for the company means we have kept our attrition rate at an impressive 16% pa.”
As part of the celebration, the workforce were picked up from their office at 11am on a 1960’s open top bus, and with the sun shining they began their ‘Summer Holiday’. With jars of old fashioned sweeties and giant playing cards to keep them occupied, the group were then driven through the back roads of Sussex to country pubs, where they enjoyed jugs of Pimms and a hearty Ploughmans lunch. The surprises did not end there, when the bus made the ascent to the top of Devil’s Dyke. Staff then had the opportunity to try out ‘zorbing’, where two people are strapped into a huge bouncy ball and rolled down a hill. The majority tried it out and enjoyed a picnic with beautiful views over the South Downs. After that activity, the bus headed down into Brighton where they then ate a traditional fish and chip supper on the beach and watched the sun set before heading back to the office.
Karen Cole comments “Our business ethos has always been that it is the people you employ who make the business. They are the most important factor- without them you have no business! Here at Alexander Lloyd we have a real belief in training, developing and rewarding and companies who do not treat their staff in this way are being short sighted. By treating your employees well you are building a strong team of people who want to come into work in the morning and work hard.”
